The Mindset Coach

Use this article “The Mindset Coach” to unlock your potential and dissolve those limiting beliefs around money, wealth and self worth. If you’re here, you are probably having some issues around money? No matter how hard you try “on the outside”, if you’re carrying beliefs which sabotage your physical efforts, you’ll always come up against a “glass ceiling” of belief.

These beliefs are often to do with self worth and self image and you may also have some negative ideas around money, the rich and wealthy. For example, how do you view the rich and wealthy? Be honest! Do you see them as negative in any way?

Give yourself a score out of 10 for the following statements: 1 = agree completely, 10 = disagree completely:

“Rich people are greedy”

“I don’t deserve to be rich”

“It’s more spiritual to be poor”

“Being rich will corrupt me”

“I don’t care about money”

“I don’t want to be wealthy”

“I’ll never be rich”

“It’s not right to want too much”

“I only want enough”

Have a look again at how these questions made you feel and go through them again being honest in your answers. Did anything negative come up around the subject of money or self worth? This can indicate where the work needs to be done. There’s more questions on this page. Go through them and mark yourself out of 10 again as before.

The Mindset Coach – Awareness

To change your relationship with money you first need to bring some awareness into how you view the topic of money. How do you see those who have more than you? Do you think well of them? If not, how will you reconcile these feelings when you are rich yourself? Having money and being rich can have a lot of negative connotations associated with them, especially if you’ve struggled with money. But those feelings can also push money away from you if you have some negativity towards the topic.

Notice what you say about the rich and about wealth in general. Do your words and thoughts support your desire for more money? Or do they contradict them?

Exercise: For a full week take a note pad and pen and write down anything you think or say which is negative towards yourself, money or wealth. Just observe (without judgement) and this exercise will help you see what is going on inside your mind which may be holding you from the money you say you want.

The Mindset Coach – Your Circle

Jim Rohn – “You are the average of the 5 people you spend most time with”

Your circle has a huge influence on you and should you lift yourself above them financially, there will likely be a number of repercussions. Lottery winners often say that it was the worst thing that happened to them because their relationships were often lost forever due to the sudden win.

Your circle of friends and relatives are the most important people in your life. We usually share the same ideas as those closest to us too. But this can be a bad thing when we are trying to improve ourselves and achieve greater success. Loved ones can be resentful of our goals and hold us back. A sudden increase in your financial status can change the dynamic of a relationship.

If you want to change things in your life, spend time with the people who want the same for themselves and for you. Avoid spending time with people who take the wind out of your sails!

Exercise: notice what your close circle of friends and relatives say about money, wealth and the rich for a full week. Don’t comment or just, just observe and take noice. Their ideas on the topic are likely to reflect some of your own beliefs too.

Changing Your Ideas Around Money

Now you have done some work on uncovering some of your beliefs around the topic of money, you should have a clearer awareness of the things you tell yourself and the environment in which you put yourself. Changing your ideas around the topic of money can be difficult and if you have been dealing with struggle and poverty for some time, your ideas will likely be even more ingrained. To change some negative ideas around money to more supportive ones you can “install” some new beliefs.

You have maybe noticed yourself saying things such as: “I always struggle”, “I never have any money”, “Why can’t I ever get ahead” or something similar. These are the messages you are sending to your subconscious mind which surely delivers what you have intended! You need to change your story and the things you say to yourself. Here’s a few ideas of what you can say instead when you catch yourself: “Money comes easily and frequently”, “I get paid to be me”, “I always have some money”, “I attract abundance” and so on.

You may not believe these ideas at first. Just keep replacing your old ideas when they pop up with new more supportive ideas.

Exercise: Write down a few new more supportive ideas around money which you can use as a mantra and whenever your negative ideas surface.

The Mindset Coach – Your Story

Your story is a good signal as to how you think and feel about yourself. You’ll notice your story when you meet someone new and tell them about yourself. Is it a story of self pity and disappointment? Or a story of self love and acceptance? If you’re telling people about your sob story, you are giving more energy to this idea. This feeds your subconscious mind and it gives you more of the same. To turn things around you need to stop doing it! Notice your story and see it for what it really is – a self fulfilling prophecy.

You need a new story to tell. Think of yourself in a positive light instead and write out a new story which tells the life you want to live, not the struggle and pain you don’t want.

Exercise: Notice your story you tell yourself (in your head) and whenever you talk about yourself in discussion with others. This can be a major key to how you sell yourself (the self image). If your self image is negative, this can be a blockage to your attaining more of what you want. Re-write your story and start telling yourself a new one – the one you really want.

What To Say To Yourself

Your inner dialogue has been running for years and you will be talking to yourself in your head a lot. If these ideas and thoughts are not helping you, you need to change them. Start by noticing them and then slowly introduce the new ideas you want to grow – such as greater abundance and more money flowing into your life.

Make this an ongoing practice, not a “one-hit wonder”!. The longer you have been thinking negatively towards yourself, and money, the more work you have to do! Go steady and just start by noticing. A simple daily meditation practice can hep you uncover some of where your thoughts of lack and limitation are coming from.
