“..if you learn to relax deeply and do creative visualization, you may be able to make far more effective changes in your life than you would by thinking, worrying, planning, and trying to manipulate things and people.” – Shakti Gawain Creative Visualization
We are all born with the innate ability to visualise through “daydreaming”. Unfortunately the ability is taught out of us through life. We are programmed to use our cognitive thinking skills, and that “fantasy” and “daydreaming” is a waste of time.
In Shakti Gawain’s book, she shows us the basic approaches to relaxing deeply to prepare for visualisation. You’ll learn visualisation techniques, affirmations, meditation and how the universe is energy. By communicating your desires with the universe and your subconscious mind through visualisation, you can create and manifest more easily than through physical and mental efforts alone. In my last post on cybernetic transposition I shared another great book by Stuart Lichtman, which shares some similar ideas.
Creative Visualization Shakti Gawain Pdf – Affirmations
Affirmations are powerful. We use them unconsciously all the time as we talk to ourselves, whether out loud or in our heads. Think about some of the negative things you tell yourself on a daily basis:
- I’m never good enough
- It’s never enough
- Why is life so hard?
- Why can I never get_______?
These are little “affirmations” which we often use unconsciously. If you have ever meditated you will have seen this internal clutter of the mind. The power of affirmations is double because we stop our minds thinking of these little negative (and unconscious) ideas continually and replace them with more affirmative ideas which bring about better outcomes.
“Affirmations are one of the most important elements of creative visualization. To affirm means “to make firm”. An affirmation is a strong, positive statement that something is already so. It is a way of “making firm” that which you are imagining.” – Shakti Gawain Creative Visualization
When our minds are full of self defeating thoughts, there’s little room for anything else. We talk ourselves out of the possibilities which are everywhere and limit our potential. With an affirmation, we can focus our mind on something we want, rather than allow the inner chatter of our mind bring about difficulties without our being conscious that it’s our creation.
Here’s some examples of positive affirmations from Shakti’s book:
“Every day in every way I’m getting better and better.”
“Everything I need is coming to me easily and effortlessly”
“My life is blossoming in total perfection”
“I am the master of my life”
Visualisation Exercise
Here’s a basic visualisation exercise which you can get going with. Start by thinking of something you would like to have. Start with something relatively simple, which you can imagine is possible to attain. It might be an object, a situation or an event you’d like to happen. Or a circumstance in your life you would like to improve.
Next get comfortable sitting or lying down somewhere quiet where you won’t be disturbed. Go through your body from your toes to the top of your head, relaxing every part in turn. When you are thoroughly relaxed, you can start to think about the thing you want. It might take a few minutes to really get into this visualisation. It should be fun, like daydreaming as a child. Keep doing this as long as you want but as long as it is enjoyable.
Mentally make some very positive statements to yourself about this event such as:
“Here I am spending a wonderful weekend in the mountains. What a beautiful vacation.
or
I love the view from my spacious, new apartment.
or
I’m learning to love and accept myself as I am”
Here’s another statement you can end your visualisation practice with:
“This, or something better now manifests for me in totally satisfying and harmonious ways, for the highest good of all concerned”
You’ll notice there’s a caveat here which allows for something better to potentially happen.
