Abundance Mentality – 7 Habits: Meditate

Meditation is a fantastic way to calm your mind and observe your thinking patterns. You’ve likely had similar thinking patterns for a long time, often for years. Those thoughts create grooves which eventually become beliefs. When you have such ingrained thinking patterns it can be hard to shift some of your hard wired ideas about yourself and the world.

Beliefs such as “money doesn’t grow on trees”, “Rich people are greedy”, or “being poor is more virtuous than being rich” aren’t going to help you build a life of more abundance. Instead you want to cultivate more constructive ideas about what you want to create. Meditation gives you the space to uncover some of your thinking towards lack and scarcity.

Start with a daily mediation practice of 5 minutes. Sit comfortably and watch your mind whirl away! Be still enough to observe without judgement and pay attention to your breathing. This simple practice can help you become more conscious about your thoughts. This in turn will give you more insight into some of your limiting beliefs about abundance and scarcity.

Abundance Mentality – 7 Habits: Watching Your Speech

What you speak about yourself and about money are intricately linked to your ideas which you carry around throughout your daily life. If you have some limiting ideas about how much abundance you can create, you’re likely talking about them on a regular basis.

Start observing your speech patterns around the topic of money, scarcity and wealth and prosperity. If you notice something negative which you say around this topic, make a mental note of it. Once you start unpicking your stories which you tell yourself (and others), you’ll begin to shift your self image and you can create a new more abundant story.

Take a notepad and pen with you and note down any observations over the course of a week. You can also notice what your close friends and relatives say on the topic of money and abundance too. Your closest circle of friends are likely to talk about ideas you hold collectively. So notice what they say around this topic too.

Abundance Mentality: Feelings

Whenever you are feeling low, you’re much more likely to think in terms of scarcity. When you’re “up” you’re more likely to think abundantly. Consider how your energy levels change throughout the day. Make a mental note when your energy drops. Is this because of your thinking or something you have done, or not done? By paying attention to your feelings and energy levels you can start to adjust the things you do (or don’t do) which put you in a negative frame of mind.

To help you maintain a positive frame of mind, you can consider your exercise routine and diet, but also the mental input you are giving your attention to. How are you feeding your mind? Is it with Netflix or social media, or are you actively seeking resources and material which will feed you more positive outlook?

Often a late night binge of social media will affect your sleep and this will affect your mood the following day. Pay attention to your feelings and use a diary to observe how you are feeding your body, soul and mind.

Focus on keeping yourself in a positive mind space. If you drop into a negative vibe, notice what triggers this and learn how to avoid your triggers. It could be people, situations or thoughts as well as lack of exercise, poor or unhealthy diet or over indulging. Feeling good is key!

Abundance Mentality 7 Habits: Reading

Wealthy people read. According to Thomas Corley, author of “Rich Habits: The Daily Success Habits Of Wealthy Individuals,” 67% of rich people watch TV for one hour or less per day, while just 23% of poor people keep their TV time under 60 minutes. Corley also found only 6% of the wealthy watch reality shows, while 78% of the poor do.

Warren Buffett estimates that 80% of his working day is dedicated to reading.

Reading is a very low cost way to improve your mindset towards money and abundance. Make a habit of reading something every day on the topic, however little. It will serve you well if you wish to attain a more abundant mindset.

Prune Your “Garden”

If you make a habit out of watching your thoughts and noticing them during meditation, you can become more conscious about your thinking and the thoughts you allow to remain in your conscious mind.

think and grow rich

Napoleon Hill writes this in his book Think and Grow Rich: “The subconscious mind makes no distinction between constructive and destructive thought impulses. It works with the material we feed it, through our thought impulses. The subconscious mind will translate into reality a thought driven by fear, just as readily as it will translate into reality a thought driven by courage or faith.”

By getting more conscious about out thoughts, we can become more selective about those which we want to water and those we consider weeds, which will not help with our mission to create a more abundant mindset.

Choose Your Tribe

Birds of a feather flock together. As Jim Rohn said “You are the average of the 5 people you spend most time with”. So if your friends are not of a like mind, and are not on the same mission as you to create a more positive mindset for wealth and prosperity, you’re likely to find some conflict between your ideas and theirs. You may even simply agree with them just to keep the peace and this itself can cause some inner conflict which will hamper your efforts.

Far simpler to find people on a similar mission to yours! At the very least, choose your friends wisely and if someone isn’t on your page, limit the time you spend in their company and the ideas you share with them. A positive intention to share your abundance insights can easily be met with scepticism from the wrong person, and this can affect your own journey towards creating abundance.

Notice what your crowd say about money, abundance and wealth. If there’s some negativity there, this could leak into your own consciousness through association!

Practice Gratitude

Gratitude is the antidote to feelings of lack or limitation. So if you ever feel like you don’t match up, you’re not the person you want to be or some similar emotion connected to lack and scarcity, gratitude is the answer. In a scarcity mindset, you only focus on what’s missing. You might compare yourself to standards which are impossible to achieve, or people (who you perceive) are doing much “better” than you. This results in feelings and thoughts of inadequacy and of something missing. By practicing gratitude, you focus on what you already have, which you are grateful for. This puts you in a different state of being which is much more empowering and enjoyable to be in.

By practicing this state of mind frequently, you will start to embody the emotions which naturally go with this state, and therefore attract more good which reinforces it. Make a practice out of writing a daily journal of the things which you are grateful for.
